A Balanced Lifestyle is the Key to Living Longer and Healthier

It does seem, doesn’t it, that no matter where we turn these days, there are news stories and advertisements, alike, promoting the stupendous studies on a plethora of natural supplements, not to mention the cutting-edge health proclamations of coffee and red wine that, indubitably, promise to decrease or eliminate all causes of mortality? It would almost seem, in fact, that a quest for immortality has replaced our search for longevity!

First of all, let me start by saying that I’m not opposed to taking supplements. As a matter of fact, I take them myself on a regular basis. Secondly, the idea that drinking red wine might possibly be salubrious for my heart is a very attractive thought. And, I’d genuinely like to believe that drinking coffee truly might be an “easy fix” for preventing Alzheimer’s disease.

But, let’s pause and consider the wisdom of aimlessly adding an extra cuppa to your breakfast routine, drinking another glass of red wine with dinner, or plunking down a pile of money on high-priced minerals and herbs that guarantee near-immortality.

For instance, let us think about the fact that we, humans, are dynamic, biological beings, free to uniquely interact with life. We have not been detained in a cage, and none of us has been “propagated” to artificially develop the age-related debilitation and disease that lab animals are bred to do, conditions that are then “reversed” by resveratrol, caffeine, or some exotic herb.

In addition, our being dynamic and biological means that we are not “robots,” and that we are more than the sum total of our parts. We are each biologically unique in certain ways, that is, we respond differently to internal stimulating factors and external instigating influences. For example, though generally, smoking cigarettes is harmful, there is a small minority of people who appear to be able to smoke and live to be ninety years old without any obvious ill effects.

Scientific research relies upon tests done through the isolation of a variable in order to achieve a legitimate result. This type of testing gives scientific research its integrity. Added to that specificity is the fact that testing related to human health issues, such as aging, is done on lab animals, does not necessarily translate to human beings. What may be effective when isolated and artificially induced may, in fact, be ineffective otherwise. To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, what may work for some of the people all of the time, won’t work for all of the people all of the time (and sometimes won’t work at all!).

You make choices each day, some that are intentional and others that may be indifferent, that will affect your physical health, now and in the future. You decide what (and how much) you’ll eat and drink, and the amount of physical activity and rest you’ll get. Even though you can “sense” what is healthy for you, by the way your body responds, sometimes, perhaps too often, you may override the feedback. Clearly, when you don’t consciously make healthy choices, you jeopardize your health and longevity.

Then, a report comes out asserting that researchers have finally found the “missing link” between we, humans, and immortality, that they’ve uncovered, in fact, THE THING that has the amazing power to reverse all of the overindulgent and unhealthy things you may have been doing to your body on a daily basis, and you, like many others, may want to jump on the bandwagon. Talk about “magical” thinking!

Your human body is an elegantly complex, homeostatic system. In other words, every operation is interdependent and sensitively balanced. When you choose an unhealthy lifestyle, your fastidiously-responsive system gets “off balance.” Sooner or later, the imbalances created by choosing unhealthily, result in diseases and a shortened lifespan.

As a chiropractor who supplements daily, I suggest that you supplement, too, if they help you to feel vigorously healthy. I agree, as well, that if it feels like the thing to do, an extra cup of coffee might actually be personally beneficial for you. And, if it truly feels healthy, have a little more red wine. Just keep in mind, however, that the only authentic way that you can prevent or reverse age-related health problems is by changing an unhealthy lifestyle. You won’t become healthier or live longer by waiting for the discovery of a “magic potion.

Free Weight Loss Diets

The march to health and fitness is raging and plenty of people are getting in on it. Some people do it in order to have a beautiful body, some people do it because they are embarrassed about their body as it is now, while others do it just to remain fit and healthy. As such, there are thousands of fitness programs on the Internet, in gyms, spas and fitness centres all over the world. Some are very – so expensive that you will lose weight quickly, just because you have to work hard to earn the money to pursue these fitness programs.

You may not have to go to the gym or the spa or any fitness centre and spend much just to slim down and obtain that desired sexy body. There are many books available in the bookshops offering diet programs that seem easy and free. However, the books are not cheap though. These diet plans are gaining immense popularity due to their publicity, testimonials and reviews and you might be confused as to exactly which one to follow. So before you choose which weight loss plan to follow, try reading the following precis of the most popular diet programs around today.

Atkins’ New Diet Revolution by Dr. Atkins: This weight loss program promotes a high protein diet with a restricted carbohydrate consumption. You can dine heartily on vegetables and meat, but must not eat bread, rice or pasta. You are not restricted with your fat consumption so it is OK to pour on the (right) salad dressing and freely spread on the butter. However, during the diet, some people may find themselves short on fibre and high on fat and cholesterol. Grains and fruits are also strictly restricted.

The Carbohydrate Addict’s Diet by Drs. Heller. This diet programme also recommends a low carbohydrate diet. It suggests eating meat, vegetables and fruit, dairy and grain products. however, advises against consuming too many carbohydrates. So-called “Reward Meals” can be rather high in fats and saturated fats.

Choose to Lose: by Dr. Goor. Restricts fat intake. You are given a “fat” budget and you are given free reign on how to spend it. It does not pressure the individual to watch his carbohydrate consumption. Eating meat and poultry as well as low-fat dairy and seafood is no problem. You may also consume vegetables, fruits, cereals, bread and pasta. This weight loss plan is quite healthy, because it recommends healthy amounts of fruits and vegetables and saturated fats. Watch your triglyceride levels though. If they are high, trim down on the carbohydrates and eat more unsaturated fats.

The DASH Diet. Recommends eating a fairly moderate amount of fat and protein yet a great deal of carbohydrates. It was primarily created to reduce blood pressure. The diet plan follows the pyramid food guide and encourages a high consumption of whole wheat grains and fruit and vegetables and low-fat dairy. However, some dieters think it advocates too much eating to create a significant weight loss.

Eat More, Weigh Less: by Dr. Ornish. Mostly vegetarian fare and strictly low-fat. Warns to watch out for non-fat dairy and egg whites. This diet plan is low in calcium and restricts the consumption of healthy foods like seafood and lean poultry.

Eat Right for Your Type: This diet is really unusual because it bases its recommendations on your blood type. For example, it advises plenty of meat for people with the blood type O. However, diet plans for some blood types are nutritionally imbalanced and very low in calories. Furthermore, just for the record, there is no proof that blood type can affect dietary needs.

The Pritkin Principle: It is focused on trimming the number of calories by eating watery foods that make you feel full. Eating vegetables, fruits, oatmeal, pasta, soups, salads and low-fat dairy is fine, although it restricts protein sources to lean meat, seafood and poultry. It is healthy because it provides low amounts of saturated fats and large amounts of vegetables and fruits. However, it is low on calcium and limits lean protein sources.

Volumetrics: It provides for eating fewer calories. It recommends the same foodstuffs as Pritkin but restricts fatty or dry foods like popcorn, pretzels and crackers. This program is fairly healthy given the high amounts of fruit and vegetables as well as being low in calories and saturated fats.

The Zone: It is fairly low on carbohydrates yet fairly high on proteins. It recommends low-fat protein foods like fish and chicken plus vegetables, fruits and grains. It is also a healthy plan but short on grains and calcium.

Weight Watchers: They advise high carbohydrate meals, but are moderate on fats and proteins. A fairly healthy diet plan and very flexible too. It allows the dieter to devise his own meals rather than offering recipes, although there are Weight Watchers’ TV dinners in the supermarkets.

Methods of Spinal Decompression Including Massage Chairs

There are a variety of ways to apply spinal traction. A description is given of how a massage chair performs spinal traction. Traction is a force used to stretch or elongate joint surfaces. Specifically, mechanical traction is defined as the application of a mechanical force to the body with a method that separates the joint surfaces and elongate the surrounding soft tissues. In the case of spinal traction, mechanical traction is used to flex joint surfaces and stretch soft tissues.

Spinal traction machines have capabilities of exerting a pulling force across the entire length of the spine. These machines must secure both ends of the patient’s spine and then a pulling force is used to stretch the length of the spine. The pulling force is used in this case to stretch the soft tissues between the cervical disc.

When using a pulling force across the length of the spine, a spinal decompression machine must stretch each soft tissue area between all the cervical discs simultaneously. Do the soft tissue areas between the cervical discs get stretched equally? The force to affect this traction comes from pulling both ends of the spine.

Another method used to affect traction is inversion therapy. Inversion therapy usually utilizes boots that the wearer puts on. Either the patient is laid on flat table which then allows them to be raised with their feet up. Or the user must lock the boots onto a bar and then suspend themselves from there hanging upside down.

Now with inversion therapy the force to elongate the soft tissues is a pulling force. By suspending the individual by their feet, the force of gravity and the weight of the patient are used to apply traction. Inversion boots only apply the full force using the combination of gravity and body weight.

Another method for mechanical traction is with a roller table. Roller tables work by passing a roller underneath the patient’s spine. A patient is laid flat on a roller bad. Next, the roller is activated to apply traction across the length of the spine.

The way a roller table applies traction is with a bending force. The roller passes across each cervical disc. As the roller passes, it causes the cervical disc to deflect. This deflection of the cervical disc elongates the soft tissues.

When a massage chair applies traction to the spine, it is also passing a roller. The roller is activated to go up and down the individuals spine. As the roller moves across the spine it will deflect the cervical discs. This mechanical bending force is used to stretch the soft tissues.

Massage chairs can apply this type of mechanical traction to the spine. They are using gravity as the pulling force over the top of the roller. The roller causes the cervical disc to deflect when the roller passes. The soft tissues are then stretched which is the definition of mechanical traction.

Massage chairs provide a variety of controls for both manual and automatic programs. They can provide a number of different massage techniques and can be focused to very specific regions. They provide a consistent massage to a patient. The force and intensity can also be controlled as well.

Massage chairs are multipurpose treatment centers. They can provide a variety of treatments to accommodate many users. Massage chairs apply massage treatments consistently and can be customized for individuals. Massage chairs have a variety of massage programs both manual and automatic. These massage chairs can also be directed to specific muscle groups for targeted relief.

Massage Chairs Work Wonders for Stress Relief

We are now in turbulent times and stress is affecting us more now than ever before. The psychological impact of what we call stress is a constant churning of the problem in the mind. Our bodies are not able to release this stress as it is mainly a product of the mind. One excellent form of stress relief for both body and mind are massage chairs.

Where does stress come from? There are too many numerous sources of stress to name them. In general, it is your reaction to the environment. You may receive a bill in the mail that impacts your cash flow. You suddenly realize you do not have enough money and your heart starts to race. Your body is responding to the panic caused by your thinking about the impact of the bill.

Your mind is the trigger that sets in motion a series of physical events in your body. Your body will divert blood to the major organs and suppress it from less vital functions. Your skin may go cold and clammy. You may get goose bumps. Your breathing will increase to provide more oxygen to your body. Your muscles will tighten and be ready for action.

What happens to the mind? The psychological symptoms may include irritability, memory loss, mood swings and even depression. The mind becomes distracted with this “problem” that it cannot immediately solve. This may linger and cause loss of focus and productivity.

Even though these symptoms can be hard to deal with, there are treatments that can help you through the stressful time and beyond. Sometimes the majority of symptoms disappear when the source of the stress fades. Other times it can linger long beyond the initial source of stress.

We can never eliminate stress from our lives. Our worlds are always changing for the positive and the negative. Everything is a matter of perception. If stress cannot be eliminated, then we need to understand what is going on with our bodies and minds to better work through the cycle of stress.

Massage therapy is one of the best methods of stress reduction. Massage helps to soothe tight muscles, relax the body and quiet the mind. Massage treatments help to reverse the impact of the symptoms of stress. The demand for massage therapy has increased 100% over the last 10 years. This is good indication that people understand that natural therapies effectively reduce stress.

When you are under stress, your muscles are ready to fight. They are tense and ready for action. The problem is that no action is taken. The mind ruminates on the stressor causing the physical symptoms to persist. Massage therapy helps to quiet the mind. As the mind relaxes the muscles become less tense. The massage works the muscles to flush toxins and to soothe them.

To relieve stress, get a massage. The obstacle most people have is its hard to take the time to go to get a massage. Everyone agrees that a massage will relieve the stress, but few have time. A massage chair is a convenient method to obtain periodic massages when you most need them. Massage chairs perform hundreds of massage treatments and can provide overall massages or targeted massages.

Get a massage chair to help relieve your stress. Imagine that you are stressed. You take a quick 15 minutes to sit down in your massage recliner. Put on the headphones and start the music. Select an overall body massage and relax. The massage chair begins to soothe your tight muscles. The music cuts out the environment and you close your eyes and let your mind quiet. Fifteen minutes later, you have a new attitude and outlook on life.

Our world is undergoing rapid change and it doesnt look like that is going to ease up soon. This will cause us more change and stress. We need to find effective ways to cope with the stress and help us to work through these trying times. A massage chair can work wonders on relieving your stress.

Massage Chair Therapy Helps Sufferers of Fibromyalgia

If you suffer from mild stiffness or more and have various levels of muscle pain or discomfort, then you may have fibromyalgia. The pain is commonly reported to be widespread within the body. It can affect soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. The stiffness and aches can be inhibiting, so many patients of fibromyalgia are using massage chairs.

Massage chairs are being more recognized as a method to provide consistent massage and other treatments for the patients. Massage chairs are being utilized in chiropractic offices around the country. They provide targeted and controlled therapies.

Some cases have pointed to a possible link between symptoms of fibromyalgia and the build up of lactic acid. Lactic acid may build up in certain people and this build up causes pain and stiffness. Reducing lactic acid with massage therapy can help relieve certain symptoms if received on a continuous basis.

Massages penetrate little by little to soothe and relieve. Some people may feel some discomfort as they adjust to being touched in certain tender areas.

A person suffering from FMS should begin with mild stretching exercises to get warmed up. These stretches should be slow and deliberate. Do not bounce or vigorously stretch your muscles. The goal is to keep the muscle loose and improve the range of motion of the muscles and the joints.

Interestingly, many massage chairs have warm up routines and other techniques to help your body warm up. You can use a massage chair prior to stretching to warm up the body and get the blood flowing in you. Another option is activating stretching of the lower body or the arms and shoulders.

Massage chairs are now equipped with traction systems. Traction means stretching. Massage chairs can stretch the lower body, upper body and the spine. Lower body systems use the leg rest to exert a stretch from the hips to the ankles. Upper body stretching uses the chair back to stretch the arms and shoulders effectively.

Some of the warning signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia include stiffness and pain in the joints and muscles throughout the body. There are certain tests that can help to determine if the person in fact suffers from fibromyalgia. Some physical examinations push certain pressure points are check for associated pain in that area. Always check with your doctor as to your conditions and specific remedies for your situation.
